The 5 Best Ways to Use Coconut Oil

October 31, 2017

Coconut oil has to be one of my favourite and most used holy-grail items.  It’s so versatile and it’s not only a great oil replacement for cooking, but it has many uses in the beauty world too. Here are my top 5 favourite ways to use coconut oil!

1. Moisturizer

As you may know, I have keratosis pilaris and living in Canada with the cold, dry air doesn’t help my skin either.  Keratosis pilaris is a skin condition that causes dry, rough patches and tiny bumps on your skin.  My skin is always extremely dry and thirsty. I find that store-bought creams don’t provide the moisture that my skin desperately craves but rubbing coconut oil on my face and body leaves my skin silky smooth while calming any redness due to sensitivity.   It absorbs quickly into the skin and doesn’t leave a greasy residue (unlike some popular face creams). Coconut oil is definitely my go-to moisturizer.

2. Makeup Remover

I never purchase makeup remover anymore, instead, I use coconut oil! Not only is it gentle on the skin, but it removes makeup effortlessly. Give it a try!

Living in Canada, we have to deal with some of the coldest winters (I’m talking -30-degree weather) which results in dry, cracked hands and cuticles.  In order to effectively moisturize my cuticles, I rub coconut oil on my hands each night before bed and when I wake up in the morning, my hands look like I just left the nail salon.

4. Hair Repair

After days of straightening and curling my hair, I like to give my hair some much needed TLC by lathering up coconut oil to replenish and hydrate my hair.  Once you add the oil to your hair, massage the scalp and begin dragging the oil down the hair strands, focusing primarily on the ends.  Try to avoid the roots as this can make your hair look greasy. The ends of my hair tend to be the driest and most damaged part of my locks.  Let the oil sit in your hair for approximately 10 minutes, then jump in the shower and rinse away the oil to reveal healthy, shiny and luscious hair!

5. Diaper Rash

Coconut oil is extremely soothing for irritated skin.  Using coconut oil eases the pain, itchiness and redness caused by inflamed skin.  Using it regularly can also help keep any future irritation at bay.

As you can see, coconut oil is incredibly versatile and can be used in so many different ways! I highly recommend purchasing coconut oil that is natural and organic.  Store this amazing item in your bathroom vanity for all your daily beauty needs.
